Xeno Fighters R Wiki

Vahrstor (バールストア baarusutoa) is the boss of Stage EX-5 (Lair of the Leviathan) in Xeno Fighters R. It is a colossal flying fortress that is supported by a squadron of escorts and attack aircraft. Its raid and boss fight very closely follow its appearance in the first Raiden Fighters game.

Backstory[]

Vahrstor

Vahrstor's entire body has 14 small propeller engines (8 of which are destructible), 4 large engines, 21 small turrets, 6 large turrets, 10 gun emplacements, and an attacking central core.

The first four EX stages were attempts by ATHENA to understand the nature and properties of the dimensional rifts. By this time, ATHENA has figured out the substance that makes dimensional travel and temporal travel possible is Tritium Plasma.

Upon entering this dimension that looks very much like Earth, they discovered Vahrstor transporting a large shipment of tritium plasma within its cargo holds. That huge amount is what makes it possible for such a large machine to be airborne, and it is more than enough to send the Xeno Fighters to the most unstable dimensional rift they have discovered.

Vahrstor will not give up its tritium plasma cargo easily, so it orders its squadron of escorts and tritium plasma powered large planes to stop the Xeno Fighters from their raid on Vahrstor.

Encounter and boss fight[]

The Vahrstor raid encounter and boss fight is pretty much an accurate recreation of how it appears in the first Raiden Fighters.

XFR VahrstorRaid1

The raid on Vahrstor starts on its left wing.

XFR VahrstorRaid2

There are two large and heavily-armored planes awaiting near the tail of Vahrstor.

XFR VahrstorRaid4

There is a large attack plane at each wingtip of Vahrstor. The right side of Vahrstor is more difficult to raid than its left side.

XFR VahrstorRaid3

When Varhstror retreats, it summons a squadron of 15 fast striker planes that will shoot down any unsuspecting player.

XFR VahrstorBoss1

Vahrstor's central attacking core activates when you approach it after raiding its defenses and destroying its support squadron.

XFR VahrstorBoss2

Vahrstor's core attacks more ferociously when it is heavily damaged.

The only major difference is that if Vahrstor is timed out, it won't self-destruct -- instead, it escapes with the Tritium Plasma cargo still onboard, resulting in a mission failure that will send the player to Stage F-B (Temporal Spaceport).

Origins[]

Vahrstor originally appears as the second battalion target in stage 6 of Raiden Fighters. It also appears as the final boss in the final stage of the failure branch, LEVEL 35, in Raiden Fighters Jet, with a different color palette, different raid sequences, the Hummingbird as an escort, and different core attack patterns.
