Lair of the Leviathan is the fifth EX Stage in Xeno Fighters R. It is a recreation of Stage 6 from Raiden Fighters. The boss of this stage is Vahrstor, a massive flying fortress that is supported by a squadron of small planes and large escort planes.
Backstory[]
After the events of Stage EX-4, ATHENA discovered that the key component of traveling to other dimensions is tritium plasma. Hoping to secure more tritium plasma, ATHENA orders the Xeno Fighters to remain jumping between dimensions when possible.
Upon reaching this dimension, ATHENA detected a large amount of tritium plasma nearby. The flying fortress Vahrstor was found to be running on large amounts of tritium plasma as high-grade fuel, allowing such a massive machine to be airborne. ATHENA orders the Xeno Fighters to raid Vahrstor and take it down by any means necessary. Vahrstor, however, will not give up its tritium plasma shipment, so its support squadron is ordered to intercept the Xeno Fighters and keep them away from Vahrstor and its tritium plasma stores.
Stage branching[]
Like Stage EX-4, Stage EX-5 has an objective-based branching condition.
Objective[]
Completely destroy Vahrstor, getting a 100% destruction rate after the boss fight. Completing this objective will take the player to Stage EX-6 (San Diego). Getting less than 100% destruction rate on Vahrstor or timing out the boss fight (which always results in a less than a 100% rate) will be an objective failure, and take the player to Stage F-B (Temporal Warp).
Trivia[]
The stage name is a nod to Mushroom Kingdom Fusion, which has a level (World 5-4) of the same name.
