The Divine Gale (神風 kamikaze) is an original secret fighter in the Xeno Fighters series.
Backstory[]
The Divine Gale is the predecessor to the original four Xeno Fighters, with it's origins dating back to the late 1980s as an experimental interstellar research aircraft, a technological marvel of it's time. It's existence was kept a secret from the general public, with early flight tests being responsible for a few UFO sightings in North America and Europe, which were passed off as mirages. In the mid-1990s, it's first successful launch into space became a technical achievement in aerospace research, with it's more compact size compared to other space shuttles being ideal for maneuverability in asteroid fields. This didn't come without it's consequences, as further exploration outside of the Solar System grabbed the attention of a space-faring civilization known as the Keto Empire, whom traced the spacecraft's return flight back to Earth and launched an attempted invasion of Earth, believing the planet to be technologically inferior and weak against the small force it committed to probe Earth's defenses. Detecting a breach of the Solar System by a foreign force, the Divine Gale was then retrofitted with experimental weapon systems into a heavy interstellar fighter to fend off the would-be attackers. The mission (dubbed "Operation Kamikaze") being a success, the Divine Gale was then placed into storage, and all accounts of Operation Kamikaze were classified to avoid causing worldwide panic, with it's technology being further researched and laying the basis for future space-flight and weapons research, preparing for any large-scale invasion of Earth that may commence in the future.
Description[]
The Divine Gale plays similarly to the Amada Vipros, but with a heavier emphasis on firepower at the expense of speed and coverage. It is ideal for taking on medium and larger enemies with it's focused loadout, but it's main shot is similar to the Amada's, providing basic coverage against zako waves while delivering heavy damage upfront. As a result, it's bulkier playstyle is recommended for more advanced players.
This fighter uses Missile and Laser weapons one at a time. Weapons are changed when the appropriate power-up item is collected.
Loadout[]
Laser weapon[]
Divine Light: A narrow and straight-firing blue laser that deals a heavy amounts of damage on larger enemies, even from a distance. Combined with the main shot, the beam is capable of dishing out serious damage to heavy enemies and bosses. It's lack of coverage is slightly offset by the main shot in holding off hordes of small enemies.
Missile weapon[]
Kamikaze Missile: Shoots powerful missiles that fire straight ahead without a change in pattern, dealing massive damage is all missiles connect to a target.
SP Ability[]
Xeno Overdrive
- Divine Pillar (L Overdrive): Fires a large powerful laser straight ahead. The head of the laser deals massive damage to the first large enemy it hits, usually destroying it instantly.
- Kamikaze Rush (M Overdrive): Lets loose a rapid volley of straight-traveling missiles.
Bomber[]
Quantum Bomb '98: An incendiary bomb that detonates a short distance and time after launch point. Behaves similarly to Amada Vipros's Quantum Bomb.
Slaves[]
Standard Raiden F: This is the standard slave type used in the Raiden Fighters games.
Unlock Requirements[]
On the ship select screen, move to "?", hold down the "G" key on the keyboard, and press Button 1 (Fire).
Development history[]
The Divine Gale originates from Kamikaze, an early shoot-em-up precursor to Xeno Fighters. The original sprite was a Klik 'n Play asset before receiving it's own custom sprites when brought over into Xeno Fighters R on August 21, 2022.
Name origin[]
The name Divine Gale is based on the title of the game it originates from, Kamikaze (神風), a Japanese word which roughly translates to "Divine Wind" in English.
Trivia[]
- The Divine Gale is the second hidden fighter to be added to the game, added in the v0.310 release.
