The Conquest Mode screen

Conquest Mode is one of the game modes available in Xeno Fighters R. This mode is a single-stage score attack mode in which players can select one out the 20 available stages and get the highest score possible. Conquest Mode has its own high score boards, one for each of the 20 stages.

Scoring system[]

This game mode and the Boss Rush mode incorporate a scoring system different from Story Mode and Path Mode.

The chain bonus score is recorded from when you begin a chain until you break that chain. A score multiplier that is equal to your chain length is applied to all scoring opportunities (exceptions are medals, excess powerup pickups, and shooting the enemy). Another multiplier, which starts at 1x and is increased by 1 for every 25 chain count-ups you get, is applied to your chain bonus score when your chain breaks.

Mechanics[]

Conquest Mode allows players to select one out of any of the 20 stages in the game. Unlike Story Mode and Path Mode, continuing is not available. Once all lives are lost in a Conquest Mode run, it is an automatic game over.

Conquest Mode has all of a stage's objective conditions and end-of-stage briefings, so players can practice each stage's objectives to gain familiarity for the stage branching found in Story Mode.

Conquest Mode began as a developer's tool in the development of the 2009 Xeno Fighters R port. It was a simple stage select that the developers would use to test stages and ships as they are made. The menus and even Story Mode did not exist in the early stages of development in early 2009. This makes the Conquest Mode the oldest feature in the game.

A Conquest Mode was supposed to be added to 2003's Xeno Fighters EX and released in a new version, but the project was abandoned and the feature was never finished.
