1974 Vietnam is one of two third stages encountered in Story Mode. Its backdrop is the Vietnam War (1955-1975).

- Light infantry fighting vehicles: Shoot a constant stream of aimed twin bullets at the player. Often emerges from under cover from trees and buildings
- Small ground turrets
- Large fortress turrets: found in the jungle fortress
- Northrop F-5 Freedom Fighter, McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II, unknown fighters: minor enemies that annoy the player in large numbers and attack in different patterns. Some formations of F-5s drop powerup items or medals on destruction.
- Ilyushin Il-28 "Beagle": medium bombers that swoop in quickly and shoot twin downward bullet streams
- Sikorsky CH-53 Sea Stallion: large attack helicopters
- Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird: Releases S and/or B on destruction.
- Boeing B-52 Stratofortress: Releases B on destruction.

Stage objective[]
The Stranger appears in their Azure Silence fighter, Chimaira, attached to the modular add-on Sphynx, to stall the Xeno Fighters' advance into BRES' jungle fortress.
Objective success[]
Cripple The Stranger by destroying Sphynx before it escapes. Succeeding in this objective sends the player to Stage 4-B (2035 Portugal).
Objective failure[]
If the player dies while The Stranger is on-screen, or The Stranger escapes, the player will be sent to Stage 4-A (2035 Iceland).
EX Warp[]
Find all hidden Micluses in the stage and collect the EX-Medal. Doing so will send players to Stage EX-1 (Gemini Canyon).
